Regarding the American entry: I'm not sure how else they could have handled it. Are you frustrated that the territory 'Prussia' doesn't snake above 'Poland' all the way to 'Livonia'? I'm sure the territories are where they are purely for game balance, with the names just kind of plopped on there.
I'm not sure about your East Prussia concern the map is certainly stylized, but Imperial Germany is still basically shaped right. (He also argued that Moscow was the effective capital of Russia in 1914.)
The Moscow issue was specifically raised at the demo I attended, and the response from the Avalon Hill guy was it was a for game balance. Oh, I totally understand disagreeing with their 'adaptation' of history.
